Nytro demo update 3.2.0 and earlier

Public demo version 3.2.0 marks a major milestone in Nytro's development. The game is devoid of placeholder systems. It has significant playable content. And, the addition of respawning enemies on player death brings the experience in line with what was intended from its conception. This makes 3.2.0 a proper vertical slice, mostly representative of what can be expected from the whole.

As for the details...

Update 3.0.0 brought the first fully playable non-hub level: The Scraypard. If you haven't already, give it a shot!

And now, as of 3.2.0, the dynamic character controller has been fully replaced by a kinematic controller, bringing with it moving platform support and unlocking the potential for more interesting environmental interactions to come. There are a few jagged edges to sand down, but the system is stable enough for release.

If you have any questions, comments, concerns, or bug reports, feel free to drop them anywhere I happen to be (external links are available on the game's page, and there are discussion and bug reports sections on the forums).

While the changelog below only covers 3.2.0, there were many updates between it and 2.0.0 (the last version to have an associated development log). The changes made in all of those are documented on the full changelog.

Changelog for 3.2.0

  • Replaced dynamic player character controller with a kinematic controller.
  • Slightly reduced max jump height due to changes in how velocity is calculated in the new character controller.
  • Converted some moving objects to moving platforms.
  • Increased the width of a shortcut object in the scrapyard, for easier recognition and usability.
  • Fixed jumping spider damage not stunning player.
  • Fixed glide sound continuing to play when the menu is opened while gliding.
  • Fixed a space filler collider in the grassy hub playing the default footstep sound (grass) instead of crystal.
  • Fixed a freeze by disabling pause menu toggling during screen fades.
  • Fixed barrel break particle effects not correctly facing away from explosion damage sources.
  • Brightened the walkable part of the roof arch on the scrapyard's main building.
  • Changed grassy hub music's load type to streaming.
  • Increased the max number of simultaneous scrapyard liquid damage sound effect instances from 1 to 2.
  • Removed the now unused pause on charge hit setting.
  • Moved the ambient occlusion setting into a "Buggy" video options category, to better convey its unrecommended status.

Known issues in 3.2.0

  • It is possible to stand quite far from ledges before falling.
  • Gliding into corners results in slow decent.
  • Gliding into corners formed by two or more slopes can result in sliding upward.
